JURY REPORT

Aargauer Kuratorium (committee) „Auswahl 12“  („ selection 12“ annual exhibtion oft he artists from the Canton Aargau) Aargauer Kunsthaus, Aarau (Museum of Modern Art, Aarau)
Jury report written by Elisabeth Grossmann, Art historian

Over the years Denise Koblers art evolved into two disciplines, drawing andphotography. In each of the respective mediums, she develops a different set of topics.
One of the central themes of her drawings is society’s attitude towards the female body.
Whereas the focus of her photography lies in todays handling of nature, flora and fauna.

The triptych work « RayolI – III » is all about the flora of the botanical garden (« Jardin des Méditerranées») in Rayol Canadel-sur-Mer in the South of France and is to be understood in the above context.

In « Rayol I – III »  at first sight a pin sharp, enticing coloured and lushios botanical world is spreading out and reminds us of paintings of the Garden of Eden, only to reveal on subsequent viewing, what appears initially as intact nature, Natura naturans – to be an human crafted nature trail with paths and signs.
Without moral judgement Denise Kobler sums up society’s ambivalence of the social interaction with nature.
With precise perfection she is highlighting the beauty of nature and at the same time she insinuates gently the undoubted threat caused by the alteration of the environment.
The Aargauer Kuratorium (Aargauer committee) awards her work with a grant.
